Before Galeano, the historic perspective that was given on how the conquest happened was that very humble explorers came to America, brought knowledge and religion to the savages. Yet for him were primitive people who brought diseases "Las bacterias y los virus fueron los aliados más eficaces. Los europeos traían consigo, como plagas bíblicas (...)" (Galeano, E. pg.35), who were fortunate enough that the religion of the indigenous aligned with their purposes "Moctezuma creyó que era el dios Quetzalcóatl quien volvía (...)" (Galeano, E. pg.33).
Discourse is the paradigm of knowledge and language of a historical moment. The paradigm present for the conquers was the production of wealth through the gain of capital. Europe invented huge technological advanced for humanity and invented as well a well of resources to sustain the system. When they saw that their own well was being reduced of overpowered by other nations, they looked for another's well. "Los españoles «estaban deleitándose. Como si fueran monos levantaban el oro, como que se sentaban en ademán de gusto, como que se les renovaba y se les iluminaba el corazón. Como que cierto es que eso anhelan con gran sed. Se les ensancha el cuerpo por eso, tienen hambre furiosa de eso. Como unos puercos hambrientos ansían el oro»" (Galeano, E pg.36) The result was, Latin America.
Latin America’s relationship to Europe can be seen as a source of resources. The capital that the continent needs in order to increase their wealth, as Galeano perfectly portraits in the quote “del oro se hace tesoro, y con él quien lo tiene hace cuanto quiere en el mundo y llega a que echa las ánimas al Paraíso” (Galeano, E. pg.30). Galeano describes how the gold of America was their capital for the “acumulación primitiva de capitales” in order to start the process of commercial capital expansion.

Galeano makes a comparison between the colonial era and the 70's, but now putting the United States in the role of the European continent at that time. The US financed the Chilean and Brazilian dictatorships. The answer to the question "why" can be answered by another question "¿Comprendemos acaso que la militarización de los regímenes de los países pobres es una de las consecuencias de la dominación económica y cultural ejercidas por los países industrializados, en los que la vida se rige por el afán de ganancias y los poderes del dinero?" Another argument that confirms the similarities between colonization and the 70's is the situation of Haiti described by the author "No faltan en el país talleres donde los niños trabajan por un dólar... Son, por supuesto, productos de exportación; y, por su- puesto, también se exportan las ganancias, una vez deducida la parte que corresponde a los administradores del terror." (Galeano, E. pg.350)
